Queenstown Fire

Queenstown Fire
Queenstown Fire
Queenstown Fire the next morning

I came to Queenstown for a quiet, stress free life !!!! A week ago we had a small earthquake and yesterday we have this happen.

I was woken at 2am by what I thought were gunshots. Looking out my front door I could see sparks flying high into the air above the Paragon Theatre across the road. My second thought was fireworks but the orange glow of the fire reflected on the Empire Hotel made it all too clear it was something much bigger.

One of the local Fire Brigade guys drove past on his way to the fire station up the road so I knew they would all be on their way.

Nadia Murphy exhibition at LARQ Gallery Queenstown

I was privileged to attend the opening of the wonderful new exhibition at Queenstown's LARQ Gallery on 26th Feb 2011. The Exhibition features the beautiful dark and brooding works of local printmaker Nadia Murphy (seen in the photo with me, Nadia on the left). Nadia is a Victorian College of the Arts graduate and has taken her inspiration for this exhibition from the ancient forests surrounding Queenstown.

Hello and welcome to my new blog the purpose of which is to let you know what is happening in and around Queenstown and the West coast.

I hope you enjoy reading it and maybe find a few things to do if you decide to visit us in Queenstown.

A couple of weeks ago we had Vlastslav Kvaril, a well known raiser of charity funds, come through town on his journey around Tasmania on foot pulling a rickshaw. He is raising money for the wonderful childrens cancer charity, CanTeen. Check his progress here
